Leaf back at Number One

Another month in the 200-something units in the Italian EV Market, with 1.469 sales registered half along the year, it's safe to say that 2012 record (2.348 units) will finally be beaten. The EV Share continues at 0,16%, a low number compared with other markets, but it's the best that this EV market has ever seen.

The Nissan Leaf recovered the YTD leadership, but with the R240 version coming soon, expect the Renault Zoe to respond next month and possibly remove (again) the japanese car from the leadership.

In other news, the Mercedes B-Class ED sold 50 units, earning it a surprising Monthly Leadership, a first for Mercedes anywhere in the world, allowing it to jump eight positions to #9, while the Tesla Model S had its best month ever in Italy, registering 22 units, rising three positions to #10.

The Golf GTE surpassed the Outlander PHEV, it's now #6 and the PHEV Best-Seller, and in a couple months the sporty german will probably reach a Top 5 position, something that is telling of the rising influence of plug-in hybrids here, if we look back at 2012, pure electrics represented 97% of the market, last year PHEV's reached 9% share and now that number has doubled to 18%.

Looking at the brands ranking, Renault continues in the lead, with 28% (3% less than in May), with Nissan in Second (18%) and BMW in Third, with the german carmaker registering 14% Share.

Golf GTE Makes a Splash

Some 250 units were sold in the Italian EV Market, ending May with 1.261 sales YTD, it seems that the market will finally beat the 2012 record (2.348 units). The EV Share is at 0,16%, a few steps above last years number (0,12%).

The big news was the thundering arrival of the VW Golf GTE, the 64 units registered right now, making it not only make the most serious candidate for this year Plug-In Hybrid Best Seller title (Sorry Outlander PHEV), but it can be also the first PHEV to reach a podium seat!

In other news...The Renault Zoe recovered the #1, with 50 sales last month (Best performance in two years) while the new #3 is now belonging to the Renault Twizy, a summer favorite in Italy. 

Looking at the brands ranking, Renault continues in the lead, with 31%, with Nissan in Second (17%) and BMW in Third, with the german carmaker registering 14% Share, a great improvement over the 4% achieved last year.

Springtime Records - Italian Edition

The Italian EV Market ended March with a record 436 units sold and 847 YTD, with the EV Share scaling up to 0,20%, it seems that this market has started to gain traction and that the 2012 record (2.348 units) will finally be beaten.

The Top 5 had several changes regarding last month, with last year Best Seller Nissan Leaf (147 units, best result ever) jumping from Fifth to First, the Renault Zoe dropping one position to #2, while the new #3 is a surprise, with the Citröen C-Zero delivering 100 units! (Fleet deal?)

The BMW i3 also impresses, registering 71 units, its best result to date, but it remained in #4 YTD.

 2015 starts with different performances from these two veterans

Renault Edition

The Italian EV Market ended February with 411 units sold YTD and an EV Share of 0,16%, will this means that the 2012 record of 2.348 units (Peak of the Twizy Fever)  will be beaten?

The Top 5 suffered some changes regarding last year, with the 2014 Best Seller Nissan Leaf stumbling to Fifth, and the Renault Zoe leading the way in #1, with an impressive 118 units YTD (Last year it had sold 155 in the whole year), while Italy continues to be a safe haven for the Twizy, with the tiny two seater in Second Place. The #3 is a surprise, with the Mitsu Outlander PHEV rising to the last of the podium, a first for a plug-in hybrid, in what was once a pure electric loving market. PHEV's now have 23% share, when just last year they had 10%...

The BMW i8 also impresses, it is the Second Best Selling PHEV, and #7 in the EV market, not bad for a six-figure sports car, eh?

 Nissan Leaf got the #1

Slow Recovery Edition

The Italian EV Market ended the year with 1.648 sold year-round, a 14% growth over the previous year, but still behind the 2012 record of 2.348 units (Peak of the Twizy Fever) with the EV Share ending at 0,12%, climbing a shy 0,01% regarding 2013.

The Top 5 places didn´t had last minute changes, with the new Best Seller Nissan Leaf (A first for the japanese car) switching positions with the Renault Twizy regarding last year, with the tiny two seater relegated for Second Place for the first time, while the #3 Smart Fortwo ED had its best ranking position since 2011 (It was also #3 then), and the BMW i3 improved to #4 in its first full year on sale.

The race for best PHEV had a final twist, with the Volvo V60 Plug-In losing the leadership  it had won the month before from the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, with the japanese SUV recovering the leadership and enjoying a hard won PHEV Best Seller, although plug-in hybrids as a whole lost 1% Share (10% vs 11% the previous year). 

By brands, Renault won again, this time with just 31% (It had 47% the previous year), followed by Nissan with 20% and Smart (15%).

Regarding 2015, sales should reach some 2.000-2500 units and the Leaf should continue in the lead.

These two are running for #1

Entertaining Edition

Another good result for the Italian EV Market, with 175 units sold, and with YTD sales at 1.510 sales, the last year number of 1.446 was surpassed, let's see if 2015 continues with positive numbers and the 2012 record of 2.348 units (At the peak of the Twizy Fever) is finally beaten.

In the YTD ranking, the top places continue continue with a certain degree of uncertainty, with the Nissan Leaf (29 units) defending the leadership from the Renault Twizy, only 5 units behind, while the #3 Smart Fortwo ED still has to keep an eye on the #4 BMW i3 to prevent any last minute surprise.

The race for best PHEV is also interesting, with the Volvo V60 Plug-In stealing the leadership from the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, but everything could change in the last month of the year, so there are lots of points of interest for the Italy's December article. 

The Audi A3 e-Tron made an impressive landing, with 17 units sold, which are already more sales than their cousin VW e-Golf has.

Final mention for the positive numbers from the EV Share, now at 0,118%, fractionally above last month (0,114%) and also slightly better than last year result of 0,110%,

Great result for the Italian EV Market, with 237 units sold, the best month since 2012, when the Twizy Fever was spreading across the italian streets, but this time the source for this result doesn't come from Renault, but from its Alliance partner, Nissan, which has registered 93 Leaf's, the best result ever for a non-Twizy highway-capable car.

In the YTD ranking, the top places are pretty leveled, with the Nissan Leaf recovering the leadership, followed by the Renault Twizy, only 21 units behind, while the #3 Smart Fortwo ED still has to keep an eye on the #4 BMW i3 to prevent any surprises.

Smart Fortwo ED Climbs to Second Edition

In the YTD ranking, the top places are pretty leveled, with Nissan Leaf leading by just two units, followed closely by the Smart Fortwo ED (Up one position) and the Renault Twizy, while the #4 BMW i3 is closing in fast.

In other news, there's the symbolic arrival of the Fiat 500e, it's just a pilot experience from a carsharing company, but who knows these seminal units could result in a future proper landing for the italian BEV.

Italy June 2014 (Updated)

"Veni, Vidi, Vici" Edition

The 209 units sold this June make it the best selling month for EV's in Italy this year, placing the EV Share at 0,10%, in line with last years result (0,11%).

In the YTD ranking, the Nissan Leaf jumped from Third to the Leadership, thanks to 34 sales, changing positions with the Smart Fortwo ED.

But the real news is the arrival of the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, selling 43 units in its first month of sales, making it already the best seller of the month, if this level of sales is to continue, the rest of the competition has a big problem to deal with.
