As the Canadian auto industry exploded with 7% year-over-year growth to an all-time March high last month, March 2017 pickup truck volume jumped 12% to 39,473 units.
That's equal to 21% of the overall new vehicle market, up from 20% a year ago.
Midsize pickup truck volume jumped 28% but remains a small part of the overall truck picture. Only 8% of the pickup trucks sold in Canada in March 2017 were small/midsize pickups. Led by the Ford F-Series, full-size pickup truck sales jumped 11% to 36,244 units, 37% of which were Fords. GM's twins, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, combined for 3294 additional sales.
Combined, the GM full-size and midsize truck duos earned 14,073 total sales in March 2017, outselling the vast Ford F-Series range by 493 units. One year ago, the F-Series outsold that GM quartet by nearly 3000 units.

In fact, sales of GM's midsize truck twins – Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon – also declined. As a result, Ford's F-Series lineup outsold the entire GM pickup lineup by 9544 units in March 2017. Ford owned 40% of the full-size truck market and 34% of the overall pickup truck market.
Ram's P/U line, meanwhile, outsold the Chevrolet Silverado for just the third time since 1999.
And with the F-Series and Ram surging, along with a massive Nissan Titan improvement, midsize pickup truck sales slid 0.2%.

Canadian pickup truck sales ticked up slightly in February 2017, growing slightly slower than the market large because of flat full-size truck sales.
Canada Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - February 2017 YTD
Midsize pickups, led by the declining Toyota Tacoma, grew 18% thanks to gains from the four lower-volume nameplates, including an additional 326 sales from the Honda Ridgeline that wasn't on sale a year ago.
Although the Ford F-Series, Ram P/U, and GMC Sierra all posted meaningful increases, a drop in sales from the Chevrolet Silverado and a Toyota Tundra dive limited the full-size sector's growth.
Ford's share of the full-size pickup truck market grew to 41.6% from 40.7% one year ago. The Ford brand generated 56% of its sales with pickup trucks in February. The Canadian auto industry relied on pickups to produce 22% of total new vehicle sales volume.
