The Ford F-Series jumped 10% to 81,330 sales in the United States in March 2017, far exceeding the total achieved by its typical rival: General Motors. Total sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, GM's twins, fell to 60,870 units.

As a result, Ford's F-Series lineup outsold the entire GM pickup lineup by 9544 units in March 2017. Ford owned 40% of the full-size truck market and 34% of the overall pickup truck market. Ram's P/U line, meanwhile, outsold the Chevrolet Silverado for just the third time since 1999.

Pickup truck sales jumped 4% in the United States in January 2017, a positive start to a year that hasn't started nearly so positively for many automakers. Lexus and Acura, for instance, suffered their lowest-volume months since January 2012.

Thank the Ford F-Series, America's best-selling vehicle line, most of all. F-Series sales jumped 13% while sales of its prime competitor, the Chevrolet Silverado, slid 6%.
Midsize trucks, meanwhile, grew only 2.5% after surging throughout 2016. The Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier, the latter most especially, couldn't match January 2016's pace. The gains produced by GM's midsize twins and the Honda Ridgeline only barely counteracted the Tacoma/Frontier losses.

U.S. pickup truck sales jumped 6% to nearly 2.7 million units in calendar year 2016, a gain of roughly 149,000 sales fuelled by surging midsize truck sales and the continued dominance of America's best-selling line of vehicles. Midsize pickup truck sales jumped 26%, driving the sector's share of the truck market up to 16.7% in 2016 from 14.1% in 2015.

F-Series sales, in fact, soared to the highest level since 2005, when more than 900,000 were sold. And after falling behind the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra tag-team in 2015, the F-Series outsold the GM twins by more than 24,000 units in 2016.
General Motors, however, sells more total pickup trucks than any other automaker in America. With midsize twins – Colorado and Canyon – still picking up steam, their gains more than offset the Silverado and Sierra declines. General Motors sold 942,730 new pickup trucks in the United States in calendar year 2016.
