Geneva Auto Show - My Top 5 EV's

After a brief visit to the Geneva Auto Show,  among an ocean of ICE Dinosaurs, these were my Top 5 EV's on the show:

Opel Ampera-e: Euro-flavored version of the Chevrolet Bolt, this car has everything to succeed this side of the ocean, besides the record-setting range, it it's fast, looks nice, right-sized, big on the inside...Speaking of inside, that was the only gripe i had with the car, considering it will still be an expensive car, they could have wasted a some bucks in choosing better materials and bringing a more upmarket feel to it. 

off-topic: Talking with the Opel people, they mentioned that PSA assured development rights over the Ampera-e platform, so i expect somewhere in the future a fully electric Opel Corsa, if not Astra (Not big enough, they said...).

DS7 PHEV - Said to arrive in 2019, this is the first true DS in Europe and besides the good looks, it will carry a plug, a first for the premium French brand, too bad it will have only 60 kms range...Anything less than 80 kms and it's a missed opportunity to make a difference on the Three Marys.

Kia Niro PHEV - Hot on the heels of the success of the HEV version, Kia did a no-brainer decision and made a PHEV version of the Niro. Expect it to become Kia's best selling plug-in once it lands in the market.

Volvo XC60 PHEV - A sort of one-size-less XC90, Volvo's midsize SUV inherited it's big brother PHEV architecture, so expect the XC90 T8 success to be replicated on a one-size-plus fashion.

Jaguar I-Pace - One word: Wicked!...Two Words: Shaguar... (Can't wait for the production version)

Tesla Model 3 - First symbolic deliveries in September 2017, rest of the year to fine tune production, with moderate production quantities and high level of QC. USA-destined units. 

Beginning of 2018, significant ramp up, mainly targeted to North America. 

Second half of 2018, full scale production for all markets.

2017 Volkswagen BEV's - Larger batteries to arrive in January 2017;

XPeng EV SUV - Late 2017, ramp up in 2018.

Kia Optima Sportswagon

The all-new Kia Optima Sportswagon, Kia's first ever D-segment tourer, will make its global premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show (86th Salon International de l'Automobile) on 1 March. The car is inspired by the 2015 SPORTSPACE concept which was shown for the first time at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Optima Sportswagon offers the striking exterior design and high quality interior of the 2016 Optima sedan, with the added practicality and appeal of a tourer bodystyle. According to Michael Cole, Chief Operating Officer, Kia Motors Europe:

"The Optima has come to define Kia globally, and is credited with kick-starting the brand's design-led transformation. The SPORTSPACE concept from 2015 was a clear intention of where we wanted to take the Optima next, and the Sportswagon adds an extra level of style and practicality to the well-received sedan."

It should be noted that in Europe, two thirds of all sales are in the D-segment, and three quarters of all fleet sales in this class, are made up of tourers The car will be available with a choice of efficient and responsive gasoline and diesel powertrains, including a high-powered GT model.

The Optima Sportswagon is due to go on sale across Europe in Q4 2016.

It will go on sale across Europe in Q4 2015, with a high performance ‘GT’ version.
