GCBC's Most Popular Auto Sales Figures - March 2017

2017 Cadillac CT6
GCBC celebrated its tenth anniversary in March 2017, marking our 120th month with the best month of March traffic in the site's history.

Some things change, such as the number of wrinkles on the forehead of GCBC's founder. Some things, however, do not change. Month after month after month, the most popular review on GoodCarBadCar is of the 2016 Ford F-150 EcoBoost 2.7L, not the much ballyhooed EcoBoost 3.5L.

U.S. Auto Sales Brand Results - March 2017

The Ford F-Series also owns the most popular sales tracking page on GCBC, quite fittingly given that more Americans and Canadians buy and lease Ford pickup trucks than any other vehicle on sale today.

Hondas claimed the next three positions, and Hondas were also represented with two of the top eight reviews.

The complete brand-by-brand February/YTD U.S. sales result page was the most viewed article on GCBC last month.

Automobile manufacturers will begin reporting their March 2017 and Q1 U.S. and Canadian auto sales figures on Monday, April 3, 2017. GoodCarBadCar will be updated throughout the day with brand results from every automaker. Later on Monday afternoon, March U.S. best seller lists for cars and trucks and SUVs will be published, as well, followed by Canadian best seller lists that same night or the next evening.

As always, sales figures for all manufacturers, makes, and models will be updated in GCBC's free searchable database of historical monthly and yearly sales data. For non-mobile users (or mobile users who have opted to view the full site by selecting that option at the bottom of the page), you can also select a vehicle, a brand, a manufacturer, or total industry figures in a dropdown menu near the top right of this page. The in-depth breakdown of March/Q1 new vehicle sales begins in earnest at the beginning of April.

As a point of reference, here's the 2017 U.S. auto sales calendar.

a woman on her 3rd DUI hit the car with Max Grundy's family in it... and now he's having a fundraiser sale to raise funds for the baby's hospital bills.

Last week Max's nephew was hit by a drunk driver.

His newborn baby was in the car with him and has been seriously injured.

So... if you've got someone who'd love a cool hot rod art piece, or you want to surprise someone on Father's Day, this weekend is a good time to see your purchase help out this little kiddo

This ain't the way I wanted to start out today's posts, but this is what a blog is for, and what a car enthusiast community is for.... when things break, we pitch in somehow to help out.

GoodCarBadCar Celebrates 10 Years

We want to thank you.

GoodCarBadCar does not exist because automakers send us their monthly sales breakdown on the first of each month.

GoodCarBadCar does not exist because automakers send us a car to review each week.

GoodCarBadCar does not exist because we're a bastion of high-tech sales reporting prowess, the likes of which has never been seen before nor will ever be seen again.

GoodCarBadCar exists because of you, our enormously valued audience.

With some surprise, it dawned on us this week that some of you have been members of GoodCarBadCar's audience for 10 years. 120 months. 520 weeks. 3657 days, as of today.

This week marks our aluminum anniversary: 10 years of GoodCarBadCar.

Thank you.

The impetus behind GCBC was really my second-oldest brother. As a former category space analyst for snack food companies, I had been writing car reviews for Nova Scotia's The Chronicle-Herald for a few years, but print was hardly the future.

"It's free," he said, "Start writing online."

By 2010, we were beginning to carve out more space for sales results to form  a prominent part of GCBC. In 2011, we made it possible for you to find historic monthly and yearly U.S. and Canadian sales figures for every model on sale, gradually adding brands and corporations and other categories. All the while, we were publishing segment breakdowns, key best seller lists, exhaustive rankings, and reporting brand-by-brand results with great haste at the beginning of every month. We've also brought you more than 230 car reviews.

And we've done so with a model that's allowed you to see this information for free. There are ads, of course. Plenty of them. But while operating with Autofocus.ca and The Truth About Cars — and sometimes elsewhere — as a means of keeping the lights on, the children fed, and the cars fuelled, we've used these ads to keep GCBC free at the point of delivery.

We won't change that model.

It isn't your money that keeps GCBC strong. It's you. All y'all.

We value the time you spend on the website, your input, your guidance, your advice, and your loyalty.

You've stuck with us for the last 10 years. Here's to another decade of GoodCarBadCar.

Timothy Cain is the founder of GoodCarBadCar.net, which obsesses over the free and frequent publication of U.S. and Canadian auto sales figures. Follow on Twitter @goodcarbadcar, on Facebook, at TTAC, and at Autofocus.ca.

His rookie year he had no sponsor, and a fire suit with patches sewn on.

But after 20 years, 446 Sunday starts, 614 round wins, 49 race wins, and 4 championship runner ups he took the big trophy home

Well, this was finally his year, he's the 2016 Funny Car Champion. (John Force who?)

The courts have ruled, even the Spanish Supreme Court... Hispano Suiza's owners exclusive rights to the trademarks have expired

the Supreme Court of Spain finally declared the expiry of the exclusive right to use the trademark 'Hispano-Suiza' by its traditional owners. The reason is that they have not manufactured motor vehicles under their banner nor have they used it in any other automotive industry project in the last 80 years.

The three courts agree that industrial property is not forever, the Mateu family has had the Hispano-Suiza trademark registered so far, but this does not guarantee them the exclusive right to exploit it. For this it is essential to demonstrate activity in the sectors reserved for its use.

Why won't they just fix the damn road? How many people have to die to get a road commissioner to fix one damn RR intersection so buses and trailer don't get high centered on it?

This exact intersection, the Main Street crossing, had 17 crashes, crashes in 2003 and 1983 involved fatalities, from 1975 through 2016

This makes it tied for 2nd of railroad intersections in Mississippi's Harrison County in that time frame, having train collisions according to Federal Railroad Administration data.

Now it has 4 more dead.

12 of those crashes happened from the 1970s through the '90s. Five involved vehicles that were stalled or otherwise stopped on the tracks.

The NTSB does not investigate all collisions involving trains. However, the fact that just two months ago a similar, non-fatal crash occurred at the same rail crossing led the agency to launch an investigation, NTSB board member Robert Sumwalt said.

Now,  all trains are stopping at the Main Street crossing before proceeding, because of damage to the northbound crossing bar and safety lights.

The single track is the CSX mainline along the Gulf Coast, passing through densely populated areas of southern Mississippi. Federal Railroad Agency records show 10 trains a day typically use the track, with a maximum speed of 45 mph.

Marti confirms one of the Bullitt Mustangs has been found in Mexican junkyard

The car was discovered last year in Baja California Sur by Hugo Sanchez, rotting away no drivetrain. Legend had it that the film's primary stunt car had been sent to the junkyard shortly after filming was complete.

Sanchez brought it to a Mexicali custom car shop owned by his friend, Ralph Garcia, Jr., to have it turned into a clone of the similarly-famous “Eleanor” Mustang from the film “Gone in 60 Seconds,” but first sent for a Marti report.

Marti is certain that the VIN plate is original, and he also cross-checked the dates stamped onto the car’s original body panels, some of which were beyond easy repair and had been removed. A few of the modifications made to the car for filming have been preserved, including strut tower reinforcements and holes drilled into the trunk for auxiliary power cables.

A frenzy for all things “Bullitt” should be in full swing by next year, the 50th anniversary of the film’s debut.

When was delivered to a Ford dealership in Mexico for a press conference:

former New Jersey Attorney General, guilty and corrupt as hell, (who expected anything else?) pled guilty to bribery for using his post to get United Airlines to run money-losing direct flights between Newark, N.J., and Columbia, S.C., saving him an hour's driving time to his weekend home.

The former chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, pleaded guilty to bribery last year for the backroom deal, which occurred at a time when United was negotiating with the Port Authority over a new hangar it wanted to build at Newark Liberty International Airport.

He pressured United Airlines to reinstate a flight route to give him easier access to one of his weekend homes near Augusta Georgia.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aiken,_South_Carolina In the 19th century, it was a wintering spot for the Astors and Vanderbilts, now it's the wintering grounds for equestrians. His main house is in Washington Conn, his condo is in Newark.

Federal prosecutors told the judge that because the flight was created solely for Samson's convenience, United allowed him chose the days he preferred to travel. The route, which was cancelled within days after Samson resigned as Port Authority chairman in March 2014, lost approximately $945,000 before it was grounded.

Anyone else suddenly wonder how many airlines are losing money, and overcharging normal customers because they are handing out sweetheart deals to billionaires who refuse to charter private jets or helicopters?

The judge let him off in luxury with a sentence of home confinement (in a choice of mansions) for one year and 3,600 hours of community service. (really? Think he'll get his shoes dirty? Hell no) and wear a monitoring device and pay a $100,000 fine.

How the hell does that repay the taxpayers for the 16 month investigation and prosecution? It doesn't.

Just think for a moment what a joke home confinement is to a billionaire with a 1.7M home in Columbia South Carolina, and another home Newark New Jersey,

The charges against Samson were an offshoot of a nearly 16-month federal investigation that led to criminal charges against two other members of Governor Christie's inner circle in connection with the 2013 toll lane shutdowns at the George Washington Bridge that served as an act of political retribution against the mayor of Fort Lee after he declined to endorse Christie for re-election.

Samson was once appointed to serve on the Supreme Court of New Jersey Ethics Committee. Did he corrupt it, or did it corrupt him?

In December 2014 Samson and his law firm sued the New Jersey State Ethics Commission in U.S. District Court, claiming it does not have the authority to investigate Port Authority commissioners, namely, him, as he voted at the Port Authority to award multimillion-dollar contracts to Railroad Construction Company Inc, a company whose owner is represented by Samson's law firm

Local residents had stopped the female driver of a vehicle whom they believed was driving whilst drunk. One of the clues that tipped them off was the children’s swing set wedged onto the roof of the vehicle.

The residents claimed that the driver allegedly lost control of her vehicle driving into the back yard of a house where she then ploughed straight through the children’s swing set lodging it securely to the vehicle's roof.

Phnom Penh's No 1 Ladies Taxi Scooter Agency

In Cambodia's capital, motorbike taxis are everywhere - but it's extremely rare to see women drivers transporting tourists.  Katya Cengel is the young entrepreneur trying to change that.

Renou got the idea after an aunt told her about schoolgirls offering a moto taxi service in Thailand.

Having ridden a motorbike since high school, and having studied English in college, Renou figured showing tourists around her city would be a fun way to earn money as a good business opportunity.

In 2015 almost five million tourists travelled to Cambodia, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism.

"Tourists like girls who drive slow, not weave in and out of traffic," said Ly, who keeps a stack of Moto Girl Tour brochures on her desk. The Moto Girls may be on to something. In early 2016 Vespa Adventures motorbike tour-company opened a branch in Phnom Penh and began hiring both male and female drivers, says Alex Meldrum, the manager.

An American man founded the original Vespa Adventures in Vietnam. But a Cambodian woman who plans to hire mainly female drivers in the group's other Cambodian location

enthusiasm, unlimited budget, and lots of driving experience. Bring those and you should be fine at a race, right? We will find out, this weekend, when Jay Leno takes on the Mint 400

His co-driver will be Ryan Millen

Leno’s Mint 400 experience will be featured in an episode of the Emmy-winning “Jay Leno’s Garage” and is expected to expose the sport to a new audience. He adds his name to a long list of celebrity drivers who have competed in Las Vegas’ treacherous and iconic off-road race.

James Garner, Steve McQueen, Lee Majors, Larry Wilcox, Patrick Dempsey, Mort Sahl, Buddy Hackett, Shecky Greene, Ted Nugent … the list of celebrity drivers who have tried to conquer the dusty environs in a humbling test of man and machine is nearly as long as the difficult journey.

Takata Corp. pled guilty in a U.S. federal court to felony charges stemming from its faulty airbag inflators

One felony count of wire fraud. That was the result of the Justice Department's investigation into 16 deaths involving cars that used its airbags, Automotive News reports.

Takata confirmed it would pay out $1 billion as part of a settlement, and also that it would be pleading guilty in the case. Additionally, three high-ranking Takata executives have been charged with falsifying test results in an attempt to cover up the company's 100 million defective airbag inflators.

According to the U.S. Senate, every new car sold by Ferrari today uses faulty Takata airbags that will be scheduled to be recalled by the end of 2018

How often have the Presidents of countries met with business execs to learn about the problems of international businesses? I'm not sure, but, it happened today, and POTUS was pissed to learn how lopsided tariffs are. Harley Davidsons might just get cheaper overseas in the near future if the pres hammers out some international tariff reform

I'm surprised to hear in the speech to congress today that other countries double the cost of HDs for no reason other than to get their citizens to buy fewer of them, and more of the native bikes that need extreme helping measures to sell in their own countries.

“We want to make it easier for business to create more jobs and more factories to be made in the U.S. and you’re a great example of that,” Trump told the executives.

Trump is seeking to uphold campaign promises to return lost manufacturing jobs to the U.S. The president has met with the CEOs of the traditional domestic automakers as well as the heads of Dow Chemical Co., Whirlpool Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp. and U.S. Steel Corp. all in his first two weeks in office, indicating he’ll take a hands-on role in U.S. corporate decision-making, especially if it’ll lead to job creation for middle-class Americans.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-02/trump-welcomes-harley-davidson-ceo-in-latest-white-house-session

Believe it or not, as I find it really odd, but the threat of extensive protests made it unlikely that a visit to the HD factory could be anything productive and it was found to be far cheaper and more effective to have the HD executives fly to Washington DC and meet the pres at the White House and bring some Harleys.

http://www.wisn.com/article/harley-davidson-executives-to-travel-to-dc-meet-with-president-trump/8663879
https://qz.com/921722/the-country-trump-mentioned-with-a-100-tariff-on-harley-davidson-motorcycles-india/

During his speech the president mentioned that the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company faces a 100% tariff in in at least one country.

Fact check: True. The tariff, applied by India on motorcycles with engines larger than 800cc, is a full 100%, according to the International Trade Centre. Other notable countries with high tariffs on large motorcycles are Thailand, China, and Malaysia.

The US’s tariff on large motorcycles from India is 0% and can range up to 10% for other countries.

Clearly, that isn't good for business to be an importer of inexpensive items, and exporting the same type item at double the cost. How pharmaceuticals get cheaper when exported from the USA is a complete mystery, but it's true.

President Trump used Harley-Davidson motorcycles as a metaphor for the obstacles faced by American companies on the global market.

“I just met with officials and workers from a great American company, Harley-Davidson. In fact, they proudly displayed five of their magnificent motorcycles, made in the USA, on the front lawn of the White House,” Trump said, and he related what he said the company’s executives had told him about global tax rates.

“At our meeting, I asked them, how are you doing, how is business? They said that it's good,” he continued. “I asked them further how they are doing with other countries, mainly international sales. They told me – without even complaining because they have been mistreated for so long that they have become used to it – that it is very hard to do business with other countries because they tax our goods at such a high rate. They said that in one case another country taxed their motorcycles at 100 percent.”

“They weren't even asking for change. But I am.”

the taco truck El Tajin, opened for lunch while stuck in Seattle’s big I-5 closure, due to an accident blocking all lanes yesterday Monday, Feb. 27, 2017

The taco-truck owner, Thomas Lopez, said that the truck and his three employees were headed to South Lake Union to serve lunch before the tanker crashed.

The tanker truck rolled over on the freeway, around 10 am, and caused a 8 hour traffic stop, The crash closed the freeway in both directions between Interstate 90 and the West Seattle bridge for about eight hours, causing traffic congestion to spill over to surrounding streets, creating massive gridlock.

Boom Supersonic, setting out to build and test planes to succeed at less than ridiculous prices for mach 2 flights across oceans (most countries have banned supersonic commercial airline traffic overland)

Virgin has also signed an option to buy 10 of the planes to hopefully reintroduce 3.5-hour passenger flights between London and New York 13 years after Concorde was decommissioned.

The Spaceship Company will provide engineering, design and manufacturing services, flight tests and operations and Virgin have an option on the first 10 airframes.

Virgin is partnering with a pilot and former Amazon executive, who is building a prototype of the new jet, called Boom, in an aircraft hanger in Colorado. While several other companies, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin, are developing new supersonic jets Scholl said his plan is likely to beat them to market as it does not require any new technology that would need approval by regulators. It's all currently on the shelf parts.

“We are talking about the first supersonic jet people can afford to fly,” Scholl, the founder and chief executive of Boom, said. “You will be able to fly New York to London in three-and-a-half hours for $5,000 return, [which is roughly] the same as [the cost] of business class.”

“There is a huge market out there, more than 20 million a year fly business class internationally. We can take them to Mach 2.2 (1,451mph, and faster than Concorde which flew at a top speed of Mach 2.04) and save them half their journey time.”

Scholl reckons there is so much demand for faster international travel that affordable supersonic flights could become a $100bn market. He said his plane will concentrate initially on London to New York, San Francisco to Tokyo, and Los Angeles to Sydney.

Virgin Galactic, a pioneer of private corporate efforts to replace the space shuttle program

skip the 1st minute

It had a huge setback in 2014 when it's spacecraft crashed into the desert, but they are back to testing and making press releases about space tourism

On Friday, Virgin Galactic’s spacecraft successfully completed another flight test over California’s Mojave Desert.

The company’s space craft, called Unity, was carried up to about 50,000 feet by the mothership - Eve, the dual-fuselage, four-engine aircraft that piggybacks the spacecraft for a mid-air launch.

This flight was Eve’s 226th flight, so it seems safe to say that the craft has proven itself. The other half of Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system, still has some way to go in this respect, though.

But after the fatal crash of Virgin’s first SpaceShipTwo in 2014, this successful test suggests that things may be back on track for Virgin Galactic.

Founded by Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic aims to build a fleet of SpaceShipTwo vehicles to fly paying passengers on round trips to suborbital space. The spacecraft is designed to launch six passengers and two pilots 62 miles above the planet, where they will experience several minutes of weightlessness and witness views of Earth from space. Tickets for the flight cost $250,000.

I find the lack of  pretentiousness amusing, the place they fly from is just named Space Port, and the manufacturing of the craft is named The Spaceship Company

GCBC's Most Popular Auto Sales Figures - February 2017

2016 Ford F-150 2.7L red SuperCrew
The 2016 Ford F-150 EcoBoost 2.7 was once again on top as the most popular review on GoodCarBadCar.net in February 2017, just as the Ford F-Series' sales figures were viewed more often than the sales figures of any other vehicle on the site.

U.S. Auto Sales Brand Results - February 2017

Three Hondas claimed the next three positions as the vehicles with the most commonly researched sales figures: CR-V, Civic, Accord. Incidentally, we just finished up a test of the all-new, fifth-generation 2017 Honda CR-V Touring.

And as is almost always the case, the U.S. brand-by-brand sales results page last month was the most popular of last month's sales stories, accounting for more than 2% of the traffic on GCBC.

Thanks to you, our growing audience, February 2017 was by far the best February at GCBC in the site's history. Year-over-year, pageviews rose by 7% and the number of users on the site grew 10%.

Automobile manufacturers will begin reporting their February 2017 U.S. and Canadian auto sales figures on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. GoodCarBadCar will be updated throughout the day with brand results from every automaker. Later on Wednesday afternoon, February U.S. best seller lists for cars and trucks and SUVs will be published, as well, followed by Canadian best seller lists that same night or the next evening.

The in-depth breakdown of February new vehicle sales begins in earnest at the beginning of March.

As a point of reference, here's the 2017 U.S. auto sales calendar.

in the above photo, the house to the left? Yup, that one with all the additions in behind it. Well the small dark shrub covered dune to the left of the telephone and light pole, that is the other side of this collapsed and partially sand dune covered garage where the Wagoneer has been for decades

"I remember it being in the garage," said Graham whose home is near the buried Jeep "It's like a white Wagoneer."

As the town begins this spring to allow the shifting dune near the Musnuff's property to cover beach parking spaces, the time was right to ask the family to move the Jeep too, the town Manager Rae Ann Palmer said. "It should be moved for environmental concerns,"

The family had wanted to get the Jeep out of the garage for years, but the town wouldn't let them move the sand, "Now they (the town) want it out," Basil Musnuff's mother owns the property. He says he began visiting in the 1970s and has never seen the Jeep driven.

Today, the weathered cottage at the center of the issue sits precariously on a dune between the present parking lot and the beach.

When the owners of this cottage were asked what they planned to do, they replied, “We’ll just wait for it to fall in.”

On Feb. 10 the town conservation commission issued an order of conditions for the move, scheduled for Friday, weather permitting.

The family's house and a horse barn-turned-shed, both built before 1895 according to town historical records, sit atop a grassy dune with the garage half-encased in sand at the toe. The garage's crushed roof nearly obscures the Jeep inside.

Friday, a contractor hired by the family will take the roof off the garage and pull the Jeep out. The garage will then be filled back up with sand.

Emily Beebe with the town’s conservation committee said, "Literally, a couple of days later the town will be pulling parking lot up and then doing the same thing, letting the dune restore itself in that area which it hasn't been able to do for decades because of the parking lot."

rough morning for the garbage can bandit, he rode it out though, 7 miles to a new neighborhood.

Politico reporter Helena B. Evich took a photo of the poor little dude (we don’t actually know if the raccoon was male or female, but we kinda get the sense he’s a dude) gripping the ladder of a trash truck in Rosslyn, Virginia, on Friday morning.

Evich tweeted that the driver and the company, American Disposal Services, were helpful and responsive when she alerted them to the situation.c
