Something we are seeing frequently...Tesla as a Taxi favorite.

Time to Breathe Edition

After several record months, the Swedish EV market lifted the accelerator, registering 561 units, some 350 less than in June, but still 29% above the same month last year, enough to pull the EV Share slightly north, to 2,18%.

The Outlander PHEV continues leading the Monthly ranking, something it has been doing since November '13,  while the Tesla Model S registered 103 units last month, its second best performance ever, considering that it was achieved on the first month of the Quarter, which is usually a slow sales month for the american brand, it looks that Tesla is on the rise, will we see it in #1 by September? 

Considering that the Audi A6 sold 450 units last month, there's plenty of room for the Model S to grow and get there.

In other news, the Rookie Of the Year Golf GTE continues to impress, it was #4 last month with 50 units, in possibly related news, the VW e-Golf had its worst month of the year, selling just 5 units...

Looking at the YTD chart, there weren't significant changes to the ranking, but the Model S recovered ground to the #2 Nissan Leaf and if the american sports sedan continues to increase sales, we could see it in #2 soon.

On the manufacturers ranking, there weren't any significant changes, with Mitsubishi on top (30%), Nissan Second with 20% share and Tesla Third, with 13%.

Regarding the BEV/PHEV share, pure electrics continue to overrun (53/47) Plug-in Hybrids, the evolution of this breakdown will depend greatly on the future performance of the Golf GTE  and the Model S.

Golf GTE lands with a Bang in another Record Month

With 912 units sold, the Swedish EV Market continues on fire, beating previous records almost every month, pulling the EV Share north of 2%, to 2,16%,and making it the fifth highest EV Share market in the world, only below Norway, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Iceland.

This continued rise-and-rise of the swedish EV market is starting to show in the local automotive market, placing the Outlander PHEV, the EV Best-Seller in June, in #4 on the Crossover/SUV segment and #30 in the global ranking, and the Tesla Model S in #5 in the E-Class/Full-size Segment.

Also of interest is the significant landing of the Golf GTE, registering 103 units right on its first month, making it the best debut month ever for an EV, while at the same time placing it in #3 in the Monthly Ranking and #10 in the YTD chart (Already Best Selling Rookie), although these early numbers impress, the GTE represented just 6% of June's VW Golf sales, so the potential here is huge, making it a serious contender to a podium seat and maybe even overtaking the all-mighty Outlander PHEV out of the YTD leadership.

Looking at the YTD chart, the podium stays the same, but below it, the Volvo V60 Plug-In (79 units, year best) recovered ground, jumping two positions to #4, thus getting closer to last year runner-up position.

The Renault Zoe had a good month (41 units, best result this year), climbing in result one position to #8, while the Mercedes C350e is continuing to climb positions at the bottom of the ranking it is now #16, but a Top 10 position could be a possibility in a couple of months.

On the manufacturers ranking, there aren't any significant changes, with Mitsubishi on top (30%), Nissan Second with 20% share (Down 3%), and Volkswagen Third, with 11% (Up 1%).

Regarding the BEV/PHEV share, pure electrics continue to overrun (53/47) Plug-in Hybrids, but the presumable success of the Golf GTE will probably give PHEV's that extra performance to overtake BEV's in this traditional plug-in hybrid turf (They outsell BEV's since 2012).

A surprising sales success

The Rise and Rise of Nissan Edition

With 707 units sold, the Swedish EV Market has beaten by a thread the record 705 EV's registered in March, pulling the EV Share further close (1,98%) to the 2% barrier.
 
Looking at the Monthly models ranking, the Outlander PHEV continues to be the leader, but the Nissan Leaf (162 units, best result since last August) came close in Second, while the Model S ended in Third. The surprise is in Fourth, the Volvo V60 Plug-In establishes its best result of the year (62 units), preparing the way for the upcoming Thor's Vessel XC90 Plug-in.

Looking at the YTD chart, the podium stays the same, but below it, things become interesting, with the Nissan's  e-NV200 / Evalia duo, rising yet again to #4, proving to be a somewhat surprising success, with the breakdown between passenger and commercial versions close to a 50/50 ratio (More than 95% of the Kangoo ZE are LCV's), meaning that there is demand for this kind of electric vehicles.

The V60 Plug-in also climbs one position to #6, which is still a poor performance for last year runner-up, is Volvo concentrating all cards on the new XC90?

Another car underperforming is the soon-dead Prius Plug-In, down two positions to #11, far from the #6 registered last year and even further apart from the Bronze Medal won in 2013.

The Mercedes C350e is starting to climb positions at the bottom of the ranking and it could be a major player here, should Mercedes be willing to bet on it, of course...

On the manufacturers ranking, Mitsu rules (30%), but Nissan is making impressive progresses, it's now #2 with 23% share (Up 3%), followed by Volkswagen, with 10%.

Leaf's Rocinante is also proving to be a sales success

With 672 units sold, the Swedish EV Market was close to beat the record 705 EV's registered in March, pulling the EV Share further north (1,87%), can this mean that the 2% will be achieved this year?

Looking at the Monthly models ranking, the Outlander PHEV continues the undisputed leader, with the Nissan Leaf (102 units) tied in Second with the surprising VW e-Golf, the german car had its best result ever in Sweden, can this mean that we will see VW's middle-class favorite achieve the same success as in Norway? And can the Leaf respond to that possible threat? Bring on the popcorns, because it looks to be an interesting fight between these two.

Looking at the YTD chart, the podium stays the same, but below it, things become interesting, with the e-Golf climbing six(!) positions to #4, with Nissan's LCV offering, the e-NV200 / Evalia duo, rising yet again to #5. An interesting statistic regarding the Barcelona-built Van, is that 83 are LCV (e-NV200) and 46 are passenger versions (Evalia), it's an impressive share of passenger versions, which means that an affordable MPV / 7-seater is an uncovered niche that Nissan is taking profit from the absence of their competitors.

Further down in the chart, the Audi A3 e-Tron continues to climb, it was up one position to #8, while the Renault Zoe was also up, in this case two positions to #9.

On the manufacturers ranking, Mitsu rules (30%), but Nissan is making impressive progresses, it's now #2 with 20% share, followed by Volkswagen, with 11%.

What's happening to you?

Springtime Records - Swedish Edition

March brings Springtime to the northern hemisphere, with warmer temperatures and increased plug-in sales, as it is the case in Sweden, where a record 702 EV's were registered, which is a 64% sales increase regarding the same month last year, pulling the EV Share north of last year record (1,66%).

Looking at the Monthly models ranking, the Outlander PHEV had the runner-up closer than usual, with the surprising Nissan Leaf selling 132 units, its best result since last August.

Next is the Tesla Model S, with 98 units, its personal best ever, but the best representative of this "March Madness" is in Number Four, the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins score 68 units, which is not only a personal best for Nissan's van, but also a new record for LCV's!  

Finally, in Fifth we have the BMW i3, posting another personal best in the ranking, with 51 units, 46 of them equipped with the Range Extender.

Looking at the YTD chart, if the leadership continues in the same hands for over a year, from the #2 down, things were shaky this month, with the Leaf rising three positions to Second Place (A remarkable recovery, considering that the japanese car was #9 only two months ago), while the Model S is also on on the upwards trend, rising two positions to #3, while thanks to their brilliant performance this past month, the e-NV200 / Evalia duo climb six(!) positions to #5, leaving at the same time its LCV rival, the Kangoo ZE, in the dust (The french car dropped two positions to #11).

Speaking of losers, the Volvo V60 Plug-In and the Toyota Prius Plug-in, both vehicles with a fine history in this market (Volvo's car was the Best-Seller in 2013 and #2 in the next year, while the Prius was Best-Seller in 2012 and runner-up in '13), had a major drop this month, with the first selling losing three positions to #6, and the second tumbling five positions to #7, having sold only 10 units.

A side effect of last month Tesla and Nissan's sales surge, is that pure electrics, aka BEV's, are outselling Plug-in hybrids (52% vs 48%) for the first time since 2011!

Waiting for the Boatload Edition

We start February with Sweden and positive signs on the EV market, with 306 new registrations, a slight improvement over January (299 units) and a 30% increase regarding last year's February, placing the EV Share at 1,36%.

Looking at the Monthly models ranking, it's Outlander PHEV all the way, with the Outlander PHEV (126 units), responsible for almost half the sales.

Next is the Nissan Leaf, with 32 units, its personal best since last August, followed by the BMW i3 (27 units), in Fourth with have the Volvo V60 Plug-in, with only 20 registrations, is its worst performance since May 2013! Stock shortage or something else here? 

Finally in Fifth we have the VW e-Golf, posting its first decent sales month in Sweden, is it the Heat-Pump factor doing its wonders?

Looking at the YTD chart, the Top 2 continue, while the Model S drops two positions to #5, tied with the Nissan Leaf (Up four positions), with a new ship full of new Tesla cars coming now, expect a great March for Tesla...

Looking at LCV's, the Kangoo ZE is pretty weak this year, having sold only 24 units this year, half of what it did twelve months ago, it looks that the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia duo (16 units YTD) is hurting the french LCV sales...

In the right Direction Edition

We start 2015 with Sweden and positive signs on the EV market, 299 new EV's were registered in the first month of the year, 120% above the same month last year.

Looking at the Monthly models ranking, it's New Year, Old leader, with the Outlander PHEV (114 units, undisputed leader since Nov.'13!) high above everyone else.

The Prius-Plug-In got surprising #2, with 36 units, its best result since March '14 and the first podium since April '14...Tesla surged to #3, with 29 units (Best BEV), while the Nissan Leaf had a weak month, selling only 8 units. The New Year brought a new car, the Mercedes B-Class ED landed with its first two units.
