Commercial van sales grew at a far faster pace than any other major vehicle category in the United States in 2016.

Pickup truck volume jumped 6%. SUVs/crossovers rose nearly 8%. Minivan volume rose 6%. Passenger car sales were down 9%.

But commercial vans, led by the best-selling Ford Transit's 22% climb, jumped 10% to 463,487 units. 

Moreover, eight out of every ten sales were produced by more costly, more profitable full-size vans.

Not only did the Transit own the full-size category, earning 38% of the sector's sales before the E-Series is even taken into account, but the Transit Connect – despite falling 17% – was the top-selling small commercial van. 51% of all small commercial vans sold in America in 2016 were Fords.
