Nissan Leaf 2016 Best Seller, BMW #1 Manufacturer
Last month the Italian EV market registered 277 units, up 30% YoY, pulling the final 2016 sales further into black, ending with a record 3.145 units, with the EV share ending at record levels (0.17%), the third consecutive year of growth since the 0.11% of 2013. Yes, the Italian EV share is growing a snails pace, but at least it's growing...
There were two surprising performances in December, with the Renault Zoe scoring 70 units, its best month in almost two years, possibly due to deep discounts of the R240 and first deliveries of the 40 kWh version, while the Nissan Leaf pulled out 66 new registrations, its best result since March, no doubt thanks to heavy discounting.
Looking at the 2016 ranking, the Nissan Leaf won another Best Seller title in Italy, with 460 units, its best result in Italy, while the Second Placed BMW 225xe Act. Tourer was the big surprise of the year, shooting for the runner-up position with 308 units, right in its first year in the market, while also winning the Best Selling PHEV trophy.
Below in the ranking, the #4 Tesla Model S doubled last year result and became a force to be reckoned in this market, ending ahead of two podium bearers in 2015.
In the manufacturers ranking, BMW won for the first time the Manufacturers title in Italy, with 26% share, followed by Nissan (17%), and Renault (16%), effectively ending the Renault domination here, as the French carmaker had collected every Manufacturer Title since 2012.
Previously, only Citröen (2011) and Smart (2010) had won Manufacturer trophies.
The Euro-PHEV tide has also arrived to Italy, with the rise of BMW, plug-in hybrids doubled share regarding last year, PHEV's now have 41% share, a new all-time high, against just 21% in 2015...
