2013 All Over Again - November Edition
The 5.211 new EV's registered last month represented the third highest sales month, only behind the historic months of November (5.546) and December '13 (9.311).
This surge in sales has a lot to do with fiscal changes happening in January 1st, something that previously originated the sales rush of late 2013, so expect December to have even larger numbers.
This sales rush pulled the EV Share further North, it is now at a record 7,2%, while the November score was a norwegian-like 13%, with the market having beaten the 2013 result (23.151 units) and into unknown territory, the question is: Where will it end?
I would say, 30.000 35.000 units. Not bad, eh?
Looking at the monthly models ranking, several new models took the top spots by storm:
- The redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the Best Seller in November, with 889 units, its best score since May '14, allowing it to reach #7 overall and collecting also the Best Selling SUV title in November;
- The second placed Volvo XC90 T8 registered 714 units, scoring the best result for Volvo since The Middle Ages December '13, while at the same time placed the PHEV vessel SUV in #12 overall and #2 in the SUV chart, only behind the cheaper Outlander PHEV;
- Third was the VW Passat GTE, feeling right at home in this market and registering 692 units, or 43% of all Passat sales, the Best Selling midsize sedan and #2 overall;
- In Fourth we have another recent arrival, the Mercedes C350e scored some 650 units, a new monthly record for Mercedes in any market, placing it as the second best seller of its class, only behind the almighty VW Passat.
At last, in Fifth we have the current YTD leader, the VW Golf GTE, with only 560 units.
Three other models are worthy of mention:
- The Volvo V60 Plug-In was #7, with 438 units, being #3 in the overall D-segment/midsize-class, meaning that the Top 3 models of that kms-eating class have strong-selling PHEV versions;
- The BMW X5 Plug-in scored 244 units, outselling the whole BMW 5-Series lineup almost on a 2 to 1 ratio;
- The Tesla Model S (157 units) was #2 in its class, only behind the Audi A6 (176 units).

Looking at the YTD ranking, lots of changes, the Passat GTE climbs one position to #7, while the Volvo XC90 Plug-In surges to #8, claiming at the same time Best Seller title for the suddenly crowded posh SUV segment.
The BMW X5 Plug-in jumps six positions to #13, while the Porsche Panamera Plug-In climbs one position to #20, at the expense of the discrete Kia Soul EV, here only #21.
An entertaining fact is that Opel managed to find enough stock to sell 10 Amperas last month, making it 46 units YTD, five more than it did last year, when it still wasn't in run-out mode. This piece of data makes one wonder how would a hypothetical Ampera II (A rebadged Volt II) fare in this PHEV-friendly market.
A whole lot better than Ford does with its compromised C-Max Energi, i would guess!
Looking at the manufacturers ranking, Volkswagen leads, with 26% share, followed by Mitsubishi (18%, down 1%) and Volvo (15%).
