"Captain Volt is Back!"
After recording an all-time record set in March (935 units), in no small part due to the 325 Models S delivered then (Also an absolute record for a single model), the Canadian EV Sales continued in near-record levels, with 883 EV's registered, which represents a 61% increase regarding last year, with YTD sales at 2.606 units, 28% above the same period last year, pulling the Canadian EV share to a record 0.4%, a number that is not higher because the general auto market is also in record levels.
The Chevrolet Volt, four times Best Selling EV in Canada (2011, '12, '13 & '14), and responsable for one third of all EV stock in Canada (Thus being almost so quintissentialy Canadian like the Montreal Canadiens or Captain Canuck) leads the charge, improving in April (260 units) on its previous best (246, last March), which begs the question: Where will the sales peak for the Chevy product be? 300 units a month? 400? Answer: 270 units.
Besides the 270 Chevy Volts registered in May, the other model with available May numbers is the Nissan Leaf, with 121 units.
Please make your bets, but it seems that the Volt will be less affected here than south of the border by the upcoming Bolt et all...
Looking at the rest of the competition, the Nissan Leaf has beaten its personal best, registering 152 units, while the Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV has made a splash here, jumping to #6 and winning the title for best selling Plug-in SUV.
